    Lughnassad

    Merry Meet Dearies,

With the upcomming holy day Lughnassad, which we will celabrate on Aug 2nd, I've been gathering supplies to make these lovely corn dollies. Since Lughnassad is the first of the harvest festivals and is celebrating the first cutting of the grain I though it would be fun for our group to make them. We don't have the field of corn to take the last bit of corn stalk to save in dolly form keeping safe the spirit of the grain, I had to use the corn husks from the ears of corn we have had the pleasure to eat this year so far. In olden times they would leave a small portion of the grain in the field, often twisted or tied into the shape of a man for the God or the shape of a woman for the Goddess. The dolly could be dressed and kept in a cradle or hung atop a pole in your home or barn, or over the door way. This bundle effigy was believed to contain the essence of the spirit of all grains, a representation of the solar diety who would be burned and reborn as the spring grain. At the end of the season(usually at Winter Solstice) the bundle would be ritually sacrificed, burnt, or plowed under to ensure the next years crop.

    And here she is......

Ok so she's not quite prom queen quality she will have a place of honor in our home till Yule. When in a roaring fire she will be sacrificed to assure us of a prosperous year.

    Many Blessing Dear Ones,

    Much Love

I admire your effigy! Earthy and she's wearing what looks to be blue on the gown? I'm curious, what is the blue?
